Save While Spending: Ebates

4.26.2012

I don't know how many of you are using the amazing invention that is Ebates yet, but if not: GET ON IT RIGHT NOW. I am kicking myself for not having signed up years ago because seeing all the percentages of cash back that they offer is seriously killing my soul -- think of all the money I could have been saving! Ugh.

There are over 1,500 retailers and if you get referred to one of these retailers through Ebates' website, they share the commission with you instead of keeping it all to their greedy selves. The savings you earn will be either mailed to you in a check, deposited into your paypal account (how did we ever live without paypal, by the way?), or they can be donated to a charity or given to a family member. Yeah Mom, that last bit was emphasized for you to see. You know my paypal email... let's make this happen...

There are tons of different types of retailers, so this isn't just for the beauty junkie or clothes horse in us all. But come on, right now Sephora is offering 8% cash back and that Laura Mercier Mineral Powder Foundation (I think I would be "Tender Rose" or "Soft Porcelain") is CALLING my name thanks to Estée's flawless foundation routine video!

MAC - Naughty Sauté

4.24.2012

Naughty Sauté, a cremesheen lipstick from the Shop MAC Cook MAC collection, is one of my all-time favorite pinks. It's a bright, blue-based pink that wears incredibly well -- 3+ hours on me. I love to pair this lip with muted makeup and black clothes, allowing for its in your face, Pepto Bismol brightness to be the main focus of the outfit. Laugh at me all you want, but this color makes me look feel tan. One thing to note that never seems to be visible in any pictures online is that up close there are some very fine sparkles visible. However, in my opinion, they are not very apparent and shouldn't be of much concern if you are a glitterphobe (like me!).

It's not a color for everyone, as I've been told by many while wearing it, but I love it so much I ebay-ed for a backup after only having it a week. Don't worry, I only paid a few dollars over retail -- I'm not crazy! This product was limited edition, so unless you're willing to purchase from ebay or swap on MakeupAlley, you're just going to have to wait until it is re-promoted in a future collection.

WANT: Alexander Wang Rocco Duffel Bag

4.20.2012

I would give my first born for this bag. I've wanted it since the very first day I laid eyes on it. I'm not much of a bag whore so to speak, but I would seriously consider whoring myself out for this bag. I'll do your underwear laundry. I'll walk behind you and pick up your dog's poop on a walk. I'll hold the tissue you blow into when you're sick. Anything, ANYTHING to earn a dollar for this bag. I wanted it so much so that I bought a fake rip-off off ebay (which is a nice bag in itself but it's nothing... NOTHING... like this bag, obviously).

At $875, I should just continuing dreaming. But man... when I get a job and I save my first big chunk of money from it, you can bet I am going to treat myself for the hard work at get this beautiful, beautiful bag. Hey, I did schedule a job interview today with my ~dream job~ at a non-profit so maybe I'm one step closer! Shopbop recently had a 20% off Friends and Family sale and they excluded Alexander Wang from the sale. RUDE! (But it would have been like $700 andddd that's still not happenin')

Apartment Spotlight: Closet and Makeup Storage

4.18.2012

I really lucked out with this house and giant closets. There are actually 2 of these closets, one in each bedroom. The second is more of my off season stuff -- like huge winter coats and fancy dresses I rarely have an occasion to wear.

So here it is... where my all my most prized possessions reside...

Have you ever seen a medicine cabinet so big!? Luckily, I have enough products to fill it... and then some. #hoarder

On my dresser, which is also overflowing with clothes, I have a nice tray I got at a thrift shop with my perfumes on it. I won't buy a perfume if I find looking at it on my dresser a form of violent visual assault, so thankfully most of my favorite scents come in tasteful packaging.

Also on my dresser I keep my accessories and some makeup that doesn't fit in my bathroom but is pretty enough to be on display 24/7. All of the lip products in the clear tray are either NARS or Chanel, though since taking this picture I have added an Illamasqua one in there too. The green glass bowl in the top right corner is filled to the brim with tiny tubes of perfume, so now maybe you'll understand why I keep dreading getting more in my Birchboxes!

This is my first pull-out drawer in my bathroom. It's devoted to powder products I wear on my face daily (mostly my growing collection of NARS and Tarte blushes), mascaras I either love or need to use up, and some of my single eye shadows that are not found in palettes.

This here is my second drawer in my bathroom. It's devoted to all my eye shadow palettes and lip products (mostly MAC lipsticks). This is a very prized drawer and some mornings I get lost just sitting there reading all the names of my lipsticks, deciding what to wear. And then I snap out of it and say, "Chelsea, it's just lipstick. Get over yourself."

Lastly, I present my nail polish drawer. This takes up the top right drawer of my dresser (and is currently spilling over into the left drawer as well) and houses all my polishes, top and base coats, nail stickers, some nail wheels, and manicure tools. The brands I predominately own are Essie, OPI, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear (because they are so cheap and pretty decent!!), Julep (I coupon coded the shit outta their website for so much free stuff!), and a few China Glaze and Butter LONDON scattered about.

Zoya - Bevin

4.16.2012

I received Zoya's Bevin nail polish in my April Birchbox -- more to come on that later -- and am very pleased with both its color and its wear. Bevin's color is unlike anything else I have in my nail polish drawer, and trust me... there are A LOT of polishes in there. Zoya's website describes it as "a dusty, medium sage green with teal tones and a creamy opaque finish. A stylish and unique shade for when you want something different from the usual mint green." I couldn't agree more. Very light mint shades look awful against my skin and this is about as minty as I can go before the redness in my hands becomes way too prominent. I have a love affair with dusty shades and this one is no different -- though not my favorite dusty shade (that high honor is reserved for Essie's Sew Psyched!).

As for wear, this polish lasted very long without chipping and maintained a beautiful shine (go Nail Tek base/top coat!). It lasted longer than I even wanted and I ended up changing the polish pre-chipage in order to match my dress for a bridal shower this past weekend. How often does that happen, you ask? Well, never. I was really impressed with this formula and plan to check out even more of Zoya's creamy, opaque shades since I recently discovered their website lists color finish (in this case "Cream") and scores the color's intensity (in this case 5, with 1 being sheer and 5 being opaque). Being able to check all the right boxes and have potential polish matches presented before me is exactly what I've been looking for.

Steve Madden DYNEMITE

4.02.2012

I recently picked up the Steve Madden DYNEMITE and thanks to a spring 30% off promotion (and an additional coupon code) I paid about 1/2 the regular price. Cha ching -- big savings! They look amazing with dresses, especially vintage ones, but warning: they are a liiiiiittle difficult to walk in as they are a pretty high platform. I needed a pair of simple, neutral shoes for the longest time, so I'm pretty happy with these -- especially the ~$50 price tag. I also found the lavender ones in my size on Overstock for a little more and scooped those up because they are a PERFECT color match for the watercolor-esque vintage dress I bought a while back and a similarly colored Marc by Marc Jacobs dress that has sat in my closet for years unworn.
