What I Wore: 12.24.11

This was my Christmas Eve outfit for a party with my dad's side of the family. It was fun, as usual, and especially so because I met some "brilliant" relatives, Daisy and Poppy, visiting from London. All my obsessive YouTube beauty video and TOWIE watching paid off, I was able to talk about blusher, Primark, and being well jell of whatever new bird Kirk has all night... or at least until Arry told me to "Shuu Upp" ;) My cousin Tracey and I have vowed to come visit them and go to the Sugar Hut in Essex. And then, I can die happy.

Stealing from my mom's closet, Exhibit B: Madewell Booties. Can I steal these for real??? I've been coveting these booties and posting about them for ages... it's only fair... once again, she's lucky if she gets them back. P.S. My hair is a different color now, or as I prefer to say, it now matches my soul. Peace out ombre, I'll see you next summer.

WANT: MUJI Texting Gloves

Shit is about to get COLD. We got out taste of it around Halloween when we had those crazy few days of snow and bitter winds... and I'm dreading it -- REALLY dreading it. I saw these iPhone-, iPad-, and iPod-friendly MUJI gloves on a Refinery29 post and decided I neeeeed to get them. The past two insane east coast winters have done a number on my hands because I've been the crazy person not wearing gloves so I could change my music on my iPod or text during my lengthy walks to class. Priorities people, priorities. But now that I'm 23, it's time I start making some adult decisions -- you know, like wearing gloves when it's cold out. Look mom, warm hands!

Colored Tips with OPI - You Don't Know Jacques! and Russian Navy

In preparation for the formal last week, I decided to spruce up my nails with a modern take on the french manicure using OPI's You Don't Know Jacques! and Russian Navy (which I have the matte version of -- that doesn't matter once you put a top coat on it). I really loved how this turned out and I can't wait to try it with more colors. I feel "chic" and "fashionable" with it on, like I have a little extra something making my outfits better. Isn't that sad? Add that to my long list of issues to talk to my fictional therapist about. But I digress... back to the basics: It's been about a week since I painted my nails and there have been NO, I repeat NO, chips. I think having that extra bit of polish on the end, which I added a couple hours after painting my nails with the base color, really helped reduce any chipping on the ends. I was previously disappointed with this taupe-y brown color, but I really enjoy it in this pairing. Excuse me while I go eat my words.

Revlon - Glitz & Glam over NY Color - Battery Park Purple

With the holidays fast approaching, I've given in to the shimmery, glittery mood that comes along with the cold weather and impending celebrations. I just picked up this Revlon polish because CVS was running a buy one, get one 50% promotion on all Revlon products AND there was a manufacturer's coupon next to the polish for $1 off. Look at me, an extreme couponer at last. I paired the glitter polish with NY Color's Battery Park Purple, which is a great polish for being so cheap -- it hasn't chipped after 5 days. However, it did take three coats to achieve the desired look, but I ain't complainin'! (ADDENDUM: oh my god. glitter nail polish is such a bitch to get off.)

Bark Decor

I recently purchases two awesome tank tops from the etsy shop, Bark Decor. They make scarves, bedding, apparel, and tons of other products with original screen printed designs... and they are earth friendly! Holla at an environmentalist! I'm really excited to wear these tanks before the weather goes completely bad -- I think they will look great with my usual colored jeans/doc marten's combo. There was a little card inserted in my package that gives free shipping on orders through the year with the code FREEBARK on their site (wish I knew that when I ordered, but it's not a big deal since it was only $3 for my shipping cost), so be sure to use that if you ever purchase anything from the shop.

Monthly Beauty Favorites: October 2011

What I Wore: 10.25.11

I've been SO busy with papers, group projects, and readings lately... so getting dressed for school has been all about effortless, comfortable outfits. I'm always thinking about the long walk to my classes and then having to sit in the same seat for three hours straight for each of my classes when I get dressed in the morning. Alas, this type of outfit (jeans, flowy shirts, scarves, and flats/Doc Marten's) has been my general uniform for the past few weeks.

I stained those jeans with bleach when I had to clean out my mini-fridge in the dorms my first year in college, but I kind of like it now.

Essie - Lady Like

Lady Like is so beautiful, so perfect, so.. so... I can't go on... it brings tears to my eyes. Except not. But, no joke, I LOVE this color. It was a dream to apply, stayed on for a week with no chips, and looked damn gorgeous while doing it. This color is definitely now one of my all-time favorites. Since it's ALREADY snowing (what the fudge?) in Philadelphia today, I'm getting sew psyched about wearing dusty, muted shades all though the chinchilly winter. See what I did there, that's called nail humor.

Shop Spotlight: Clare Vivier

I recently picked up a Clare Vivier bag as a graduation present from my boyfriend when Lucky Magazine was running a 50% off promotion for an exclusive foldover clutch. The quality is fantastic, hence the hefty pricetags. But if you're looking for a simple, sophisticated, high-quality, leather clutch or bag and willing to spend the money, these bags are perfect. I especially love the brightly colored clutches since they are a great way to pop an unexpected color into an outfit.

WANT: Topshop Midi Chiffon Dress + Floral Print Midi Dress

I made the mistake of looking at Topshop's website yesterday and it was depressing -- my bank account is empty, but my shopping cart was full. So full, in fact, that the total cost of all the items I wanted was $919. $919?!?! Keep dreaming, Chelsea. I guess I will just have to drool over these two dresses from behind my computer screen.

Butter LONDON - La Moss

I'm flabbergasted at how into this color I am since I'm normally pretty ambivalent towards deep reds and maroons. I fell in love with Butter LONDON's "La Moss" as soon as I started painting it on my nails. It is the most amazing bloody, rich red -- exactly what I want for the Fall. It was a little difficult to apply -- could be patchy in some places -- but the color is so perfect and it lasts so long that I ignore that fact. If you want full, opaque coverage -- especially in the sun -- I'd recommend three thick coats.

Now lady friends, I know Butter LONDON polishes are expensive... so if you don't know of any promotions running on them currently, check out Skinstore.com, AKA my new skincare retailer FOR LIFE. BFFS. Chelsea and Skinstore sitting in a tree. They are on Ebates too! I recently discovered this online shop and found out they always are running 20% off promotions, running daily deals, and they sell EVERYTHING: makeup, skincare, nail polish, haircare, etc. Their discounts + Ebates rebates = SAVINGS. I just bought some Korres products yesterday and my wishlist is insanely long. My name is Chelsea and I have an addiction to promotional codes and free shipping.

Adam Lippes Beaded Tank

Normally when I go to Last Call by Neiman Marcus I'm only on the lookout for cheap J Brand jeans, but I found this gorgeous Adam Lippes silk tank with amazing beading on sale for a MAJOR discount. I had never heard of this designer before, but I've since googled and found other beautifully beaded pieces I covet. I ended up paying about $75 for this top since there was an additional discount going on for Columbus Day. While that was still a lot, it felt very worth it for me since I loved it and how it looked on me SO much. I tend to create fantasy lives based off clothing items that I buy and for some reason when I was trying this on in the dressing room I was a late 20s/early 30s woman living in San Francisco, at a roof top cocktail party at a friend's apartment. Don't ask, it's just what my brain thinks up -- some call it delusion, I call it imagination.

No way! I did not pay either of those prices!!!!

Fall Polish Options

I made a video where I go through my favorite colors for the new season, but I wanted to share my picks here as well. The color themes I am most excited for this Fall are berries, bloody reds, purples, greens, oranges, and metallics. NOTE: This is by no means the complete list. I picked exactly 20 colors from my collection -- mostly because that many colors would fill up the nail wheel -- but I could have kept going! (You may recognize some of these colors from previous Nail File posts!)

OPI - You Don't Know Jacques!

I had heard lots of great things about this polish color so I picked it up recently, but I was not too blown away by OPI's You Don't Know Jacques! It's a taupe-y brownish color and will look nice in my Fall color palette. It's definitely showing up much darker in my photos because the nails aren't in the sun with this rainy, dreary weather. Overall I like it, but I don't love it. I did a pretty crappy application because I was all curled up ready to go to bed Sunday night, and then I realized that I didn't have any nail polish on for the week. No way José -- I vow to rock a color each week and I will keep that promise! Perhaps the only New Year's Resolution-esque promise I've ever made and kept so far? Two coats were a little opaque in places so I used three coats on some nails. Chipped a tiny bit (hence all pictures are of my left hand), but probably just because I put it on in a rush. Have you ever tried this polish? What do you think?

What I Wore: 9.29.11-9.30.11

I really did not get any good pictures of my outfits during our wedding weekend, only quick snapshots with the flash at the end of the day (ignore how intoxicated I may or may not be in the last picture, it was 3 am!). It was a great weekend and SUCH an amazing wedding, we had a blast. Ryan had to deliver his best man speech, which he has been obsessing over for about a year! It was a success, of course! We're so happy for his brother and his new wife and hopefully they are having fun on their honeymoon right now!

Shop Spotlight: Urban Outfitters Around the World Boutique

Although I cannot afford essentially ANY of the pieces, I've been browsing through the "Around the World" boutique on Urban Outfitters' website and falling in love with so many interesting designs. The boutique got the name "Around the World" because the pieces are all from international labels like Whyred (Sweden), Sessun (France), Wood Wood (Denmark), Shakuhachi (Australia), House of Dagmar (Sweden), and the list goes on... There is just something about the effortlessness of European fashion that has always attracted me to both Europe and the stylish Europeans I see whenever I visit (and the accents don't hurt...). Maybe it's just because it's different from what I'm used to in the United States and the grass is always greener on the other side, but I love Europe and really wish I could live there permanently. I don't think I could walk around Philly in some harem pants without some weird looks and a cheesesteak thrown at me... :)

WANT: One Teaspoon Velvet Smoking Jacket

How amazing is this velvet smoking jacket by One Teaspoon? Regardless of the fact that I could never rationally wear this in real life, I love the idea of this jacket. Plus, seeing it paired with leopard print pants... Oooo child.... you're hurting my inner party monster. R.I.P. Angel. But in all seriousness, I've becoming increasingly fond of velvet lately and NEED it in my life. I'm all about reviving my 90s childhood -- minus the denim bucket hat with a gigantic fake sunflower on it. Sorry Blossom!
